When do I need intrinsically safe equipment?
If the equipment is used in an area where combustible materials are present, measures must be taken to minimize the risk of fire and explosion
Exceptions to the need for certification are in the case of “simple equipment”. This is the term used for very low power or passive devices that do not cause ignition. Good examples are thermocouples and RTDs.
How do intrinsically safe devices such as intrinsically safe cell phones work?

A simple view is that the performance must be less than 1.3 W. No. Performance is the same as devices that are not yet certified and are more reliable. These devices use the same components as non-certified devices, but are designed in such a way that the amount of energy and heat development stored in the event of internal errors is limited.

In many industrial, chemical and process-related environments, the risk of explosion is high, which can be attributed to the actual or potential presence of flammable gases and vapors, dust or fibers.
